Bonjour and Happy New Year

I have been away consulting in my old stomping ground, that music business, well I have returned. Somewhat confused by the state of the industry in FranceAnyway  I survived, and it allows me to ramble on in your general direction of matters Audoise So whats been happening? New multiplex cinema in Carcassonne and even a Domino's pizza?

Why don't you send me your news and things you feel will be of interest to readersI didn't bother with sourcing and marketing the humble parsnip for the end of 2007 as I had a total expectation they would be readily available as they had been showing up more and more atMarkets and supermarkets, and then when I looked before Christmas they were nowhere to be seen, I eventually found some for personal use. I hope you all managed to find those you required

I don't know why but this has been the hardest flyer to put together of all I have done, I must be rusty in the bizarre ways of Microsoft word.

The plan is to be regularly hitting your in box so send your submissions for inclusion in the next edition  Friday the 25th of January.

Also the plan is that the website will become a useful resource for local shareable information.

I would expect the circulation to pass 1000 email addresses very soon, so keep sharing the info on here with friends (if you find it useful that is)

Those of you within striking distance of  Limoux will be happy to know that as of next week you should be able to find not only parsnips but Wyke farms Cheddar and Clawson Stilton both in pre pack and on the cheese counter cut to order.

It comes after some badgering of management, as there are limited numbers of visitors who I can press gang into doing my Tesco's shopping prior to driving down to visit.

Yes I know we are in France, where so many splendid cheeses are produced, but there are just some things that you want to eat sometimes and a Cantal ploughmans doesn't do it for me.

De Gaulle may well have been right when he said "How can anyone govern a nation that has 246 different kinds of cheese?" and with assistance of the dubious info of Wikipedia it appears Britain may produce more than 700 distinct local cheeses with France coming in at 350 to 400

Whatever next some streaky rashers?

if you get the chance why not share some tastes of the UK with some of your French neighbours, in the name of the entente cordiale

Please note you can now mail submissions etc to mail@audeflyer.com and this is the address you should give to people who are interested to receive the flyer. And all past editions are posted http://audeflyer.com/

In the Garden

Home made compost is a great for your plants, great for the planet and it is free! There is a method available to suit most lifestyles so why not give it a go?

You can make compost in a bucket on your balcony if you don't have a garden. Borrow a small amount of soil from a friend's garden and pop it in the bottom of the bucket. The bacteria in the soil will manufacture your compost. Add tea bags, coffee grounds, fruit and vegetable scraps (better if you can cut them into small chunks to speed up the process). Add small loosely scrunched newspaper balls (golf ball size) to the mixture to absorb moisture and provide a home for the air loving bacteria. Keep your bucket loosely covered, (an old saucepan lid is good). If the mixture gets two wet mix in more newspaper or egg box type cardboard balls and the odd toilet roll middle, if it is dry add a little washing up water. Once the bucket is full leave the compost mixture to rot down for a couple of weeks and then top it up with fresh kitchen waste until the bucket remains about two thirds full. Leave for a couple of months and then use the beautiful crumbly compost to feed your plants. If you have a space in the garden for a compost heap the process is the same but on a bigger scale.

Making compost will make you and your plants feel good and it is a great subject for dinner party discussion!

Ps: Don't forget to keep some compost in the bottom of your bucket to start off the next batch.

An interesting read?

a quirky love story set in a loopy New Age centre in the South of France

It's the summer of 1985 and Carmela, who grew up in Franco's Spain, is an emotional wreck who fights the world with her anger and her depression with Valencian paella.

When she takes a summer job as a cleaner in a New Age centre next to a Cathar chateau in the French countryside, she finds herself surrounded by eccentric characters including the aristocratic chateau-owner at war with her lesbian step-daughter, a third-sex person, a whirling half-naked man, raw meat eaters and a pining medieval spirit.

Mop in hand, Carmela treats them all with waspish cynicism and intuitive distrust until the arrival of a taut-buttocked, English vegetarian chef challenges her prejudices. Her past love affairs come back to haunt her and she is forced to choose between her old certainties and the apparently unthinkable alternative of forgetting and forgiving.
