Bonjour

So to all those I missed saying best wishes for 2008,I can have another go for 4075 (the current year in the Chinese calendar) Gong Xi Fa Chai itâ's
a fine reason for the supermarkets to stock there seasonal shelves with all things Chinese, Indian and Japanese, I already hoarded Soba and Udon
noodles, yellow bean paste, Wasabe and pickled ginger, anyone seeen any crispy duck pancakes in their travels?

The New Year started yesterday (Thursday) so I think you should still find things for a while yet.

Many of you will be seeing the Aude Flyer for the first time, I must have received your address from one of your friends, if you don’t wish to
continue receiving please click on the unsubscribe button at the bottom of this email.

In case you have forgotten, its St Valentines day next week and you still have a little time to haul yourself from the mire, yet another saving grace
of the Interweb.

Here are a few suggestions of gift vending locations, in France with sites in English, who may be able to deliver in time.

v:shapes="_x0000_s1029">Flowers and Chocolates Cadofrance

Bling me my arrows of desire. No its not Cupid singing Jerusalem, a suggestion of Swarovki for a large range of jewellery and other gifts for every
occasion. They even have crystal USB keys.

Maybe it would be good to prepare now for UK Mothers day also, you have a little more time, March 2nd. You have been warned! Oh yes and Easter also

SHOCK HORROR

Ok, so the time has come, as some of you will have realised. I have failed to get my Charity status and this labour of love often considered to be the
international mouthpiece of the Parsnip Marketing Board, The Aude Flyer is going commercial. In future truly commercial ads will be chargeable,
from those of you I have spoken to you have indicated that I should have done it a long time ago. Contact me for further details. Ads obviously have
to work for everybody. I am sure you don’t give away all of your products and services for free!

I have considered and discounted the idea of a subscription, instead I will follow the lead of Wikipedia and suggest (quite strongly) that you consider
a donation for those issues you have already received. Its simple just click here Donate to Flyer don't worry you don't even need a
Paypal account

I intend to create a free Trades and Services directory on the Aude Flyer website on which you may also buy display advertising. I will send out a form
for completion a little later on for your free entry.

Next flyers will be sent on February 29th and march 13th  please forward any submissions 3 days before these dates

Many of you will be pleased to here that Brico depot will be opening before the summer in Carcassonne, the bad news is its at Bric Leclerc and they
will keep the old staff?

LA PETITE PEPINIERE DE CAUNES GARDENING COURSES SPRING 2008

We have had some very positive feedback about the gardening courses we have run so far and will be offering further courses
during spring 2008. All of these are aimed at English speaking gardeners in the Languedoc, particularly the area with a summer dry,
Mediterranean climate.  The general aim is to provide information and promote discussion in a relaxed and informal atmosphere
which will help those interested in creating interesting, easy to maintain and colourful ornamental gardens.
The courses listed below will be held at La Petite Pépinière in Caunes-Minervois (11160) and will be tutored by Gill Pound,
nursery proprietor.  All courses are designed for a minimum of seven and a maximum of eleven participants.

An Introduction to Gardening in the Languedoc: Wednesday 5th and Wednesday 12th March; 10 to 12.30, 1.30 to 4pm Course fee: 80 euros

A two day course which will consider the physical problems associated with gardening here (sun, heat, drought, cold, wind, soil)
and how to cope with them; recognising plants which are suited to this climate; buying plants and planting techniques and maintenance.
We shall also look at design basics and planting schemes, succession – planting for year round interest and plants for particular
situations.  The gardening year – what to do and when, appropriate resources and useful French/English vocabulary will also be
covered.

"Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your gardening course.  It was packed with information and both interesting and enjoyable.
I found it very, very useful and came home feeling remotivated."  HA, Villardonnel

"I really enjoyed the two days and learned an incredible amount¦. For the first time in my life I feel really interested in gardeningâ"
VS, Pepieux

" Let me say again how very much I enjoyed the two day course you held.  No stone was left unturned.  Please keep me informed
of any new ideas."  BH, Laredorte

 Propagation: Tuesday 25th March; 10 to 12.30, 1.30 to 4pm Course fee:  40 euros

An introduction to the principles of propagation, how to increase your own plants by layering, division, seeds and cuttings.

"First of all a big THANK YOU for a great course – it’s been fantastic and I’m itching to put all I learned yesterday into practice.*
AW, St Chinian

"As usual I thoroughly enjoyed the day and was, as usual, impressed by your knowledge and your generosity in sharing it, and your
plants, with us"  SV, Issel

Botany for Gardeners: Tuesday 10th April; 10 to 12.30, 1.30 to 4pm Course fee:  40 euros

sense of botanical Latin.

The course fees quoted above include teas, coffees etc but please bring a packed lunch..

Villeneuve Minervois Saturday 9th February

And on a lighter note or two

FRIENDS of rogue trader Jerome Kerviel last night blamed his $7 billion losses on unbearable levels of stress brought on by a punishing 30 hour week.

Kerviel hid his November losses in a batch of wonderfully fresh croissant

Kerviel was known to start work as early as nine in the morning and still be at his desk at five or even five-thirty, often with just an hour and a half for lunch.

One colleague said: "He was, how you say, une workaholique. I have a family and a mistress so I would leave the office at around 2pm at the latest, if I wasn't on strike.

"But Jerome was tied to that desk. One day I came back to the office at 3pm because I had forgotten my stupid little hat and there he was, fast asleep on the photocopier.

"At first I assumed he had been having sex with it, but then I remembered he had been working for almost six hours."

As the losses mounted, Kerviel tried to conceal his bad trades by covering them with an intense red wine sauce, later switching to delicate pastry horns.

At one point he managed to dispose of dozens of tranactions by hiding them inside vol-au-vent cases and staging a fake reception.

It's nice to be able to read the Aude Flyer again, maybe we can mention it in the Languedoc Sun, so people can subscribe. Let me know.

Christine, Vinsobres (26)

Our French neighbours told us of their plans to buy a puppy. I knew when I heard the word chienne that they were intending to get a bitch. I asked them when exactly they would be getting their puppy; knowing that to differentiate between male and female dogs one uses chien/chienne it seemed perfectly logical to me that if a chiot is a puppy then the word for a bitch puppy must be a chiotte!

Our dear neighbours absolutely fell about with laughter when I asked them when they would be getting their chiotte! When their laughter finally subsided there were able to explain to me that chiotte is a very vulgar word for toilet! The story of my gaffe was passed all around the village to the amusement of everyone. I almost expected to see it in print in our village magazine!

Simon, Montpellier (34)

My awkard moment came when I wanted to buy an inflatable mattress. I went to a shop and asked the assistant in my best French, "Je voudrais un matelot gonflable svp". The young girl looked a little bemused but disappeared to the back of the shop presumably to get what I asked for. After a few seconds I heard loud sniggering and then outright laughing. The manager of the shop came up to me, trying to keep a straight face, and announced in perfect English that he thought I had made a mistake but if I hadn't there was a sex shop nearby that could maybe oblige. I bought the lilo!
