Bonjour
So if its really the case there is running of the bulls this weekend in Limoux (at the Feria) the immediate thought is that that sounds dangerous and how could you organise something of that nature in 2008 with insurances, health and safety issues etc, Of course last weekend you had the opportunity of going to the Para's open days in Carcassonne, with the benefit of perfect hindsight running away from bulls seems to be a bit of a doddle.
It appears what happened was that the Parachute Regiment soldiers were demonstrating a hostage liberation scene. They successfully left with the recovered hostage and the hostage taker as prisoner, at this point they came under fire (blanks)from another of the hostage taking gang, and returned fire . It was in this return of fire that one of the soldiers had live ammunition in his FAMAS assault rifle and despite shouting and screaming and people falling injured fire continued as there was so much noise and confusion. This is what I have a gleaned from our favourite plumber and flyer readerMark Hoskins who was there, and he and his family are lucky to have escaped with only a piece of shrapnel in his knee.
There are various things that seem strange with this incident, including this story that briefly appeared and has then disappeared (google translated)
In the drama of the barracks of Carcassonne, where a soldier fired live ammunition instead of bullets to white, a journalist for the regional daily La Dépêche made a surprising discovery particularly ...
It is indeed fell on "ten ammunition wrapped in a box of condoms." No less ...
This strange package was in the vicinity of the barracks which took place yesterday afternoon, the tragedy which has been injured in 17 open days of the 3rd RPIMA.
The journalist told the Post:
How it happened?
"It was yesterday, to 20h after the press meeting with Colonel Perrin. Upon leaving, with my colleagues, descended on a small street that runs alongside the barracks. There on the sidewalk, I see a box brilliant closed by black tape. It's me the eye. m'approche I, I give a kick inside. And there, click on it, like a metallic noise. It m'intrigue. "
And then?
"I opens with a small knife that I had on me. And there, inside, I found 10 large-calibre ammunition, bullets big enough! Some true, I've given as a judicial police officer who forwarded to the gendarmes in charge of the investigation. "
What was your reaction?
"I was surprised. It is not like every morning. In my opinion, someone wanted to get rid of ..."
The police have confirmed to journalists that it was bullets "military weapons" and have conducted surveys of fingerprints before they join the case.
I hope this story has a proper explanation at some point and that procedures are tightened up.
Everything from this point will be on a lighter note in the flyer
So I was speaking to a friend and ex management client by phone he was in Moscow, he is on tour conscripted into the Crowded House band for this tour of USA and Europe .
He, Don McGlashan (famous in his own right as an award winning singer songwriter, film score composer and his now defunct group The Muttonbirds) was suggesting he would come and visit, so we worked out he would fly from Bristol to Béziers after their performance at Glastonbury.
So he arrived Sunday morning bright and early and we got chatting and decided that it would be fun if he played in my barn that evening.
I emailed those of you who have attended my events before and called a few others borrowed a guitar and had a thoroughly splendid evening.
The next morning I had the task of trying to get him to Cartagena in southern Spain near Murcia, for the next Crowded House show, that's where the fun began
The favourite idea was train as the bus was full although the simplest. Each time I try to use the SNCF website I end up failing to get any useful information I find that I get good and quick info from german railways site. We left speedily for Narbonne station somewhat late with a printout of a train schedule that would get him to Valencia and then he would drive a rental car the last part.
Fearful the info wasn't correct we arrived at the station exactly at 12.58 the departure time of German railways predicted train, walked on to the platform (sans billet) I pushed him into the carriage the door shut and the train pulled away.
The destination board said port bou which I recalled form my youth is where trains stop are jacked up and wheels pulled in or out to match the gauge of French railways.
Not full of confidence I ask at the ticket desk if it's the correct train? A smiling yes comes back.
Can he pay on the train, another yes
Then I decide to ask if they have another system for train timetables other than the retail users website, No
I explained I find it impossible to use, and the lady agrees with me, I then told her I use German railways site and believe it or not she said "so do we"
Well that's enough from me, not time to check if all this makes sense |
