Wineguru

Chateau de Puicheric - Grand Reserve AOC Minervois 2001

This wine was highly recommended in a recent Wine Magazine tasting of Languedoc wines. It has fruit and spice on the nose, is well balanced on the palate with soft but structured tannins which will help keep it going for a few years yet. Open a good hour before drinking, this is a meaty wine. This wine is selling in Sainsbury's in the UK at £7.99. You can buy it in Geant at Salvaza for just under 4 Euros. An absolute steal!"

FOOD

Ever curious I was sitting having a coffee in the café de commerces in Limoux and there were three people on the next table chattering away in furtive planning mode. Hard as I strained to hear the only word I could detect was chef. This was too much for my curiosity. In investigating further (by complaining they were talking to quietly for me to be nosy) it turns out one of the was Doctor Marion Lee of these parts and Monaco and the two others proprietors of a nearby gites complex.

They were actually planning cooking holidays featuring a French chef . I suggested there may be some amongst us that would be interested in a one day course; I will let you know if that becomes a possibility. Let me know if you would be interested.

Dr Lee has put together a book of recipes entitled Soulfood, it features chefs from the Mediterranean coast, along with very good sommelier notes

"Soul Food" is being presented here, food which by its nature has much to offer and from which each of us has much to gain. This is food which from conception through to final presentation respects, adheres to and expresses certain ideals and sentiments thereby enabling it to "wholly" fulfil the needs of the person partaking of it. My term "Soul" food is describing food which recognises and maximises its useful potential to be both artform as well as purveyor of essential nutritional needs: it is able to move, effect, give pleasure - to have impact at an emotional and cerebral level - as well as be of nutritional benefit. It is food which through its combinations and form is at once stimulating and satisfying, is an expression, a form of communication as well as a replenishment. "Soul" food is deeply enriching to the individual on various levels and in nourishing the mind as well as the body is able to act as a daily source of real and significant well being

Doctor Marion Lee

It has part of the book in English and I have found that once you overcome the mental block cooking from a French text recipe is fine and you learn new and often extremely useful words.

You can find it at Leclerc in Limoux for 19Euros, or contact me.

Well here is something to get your teeth into for February, why not start the day with a little Minervois wine tasting (in moderation) and then go to this.

Yes I know you came to france for………. But good fish and chips can be very nice, and its not all the time.

For sale or wanted

Chloe from Alet sent me an email with I think is self explanatory and of interest if you need a pet or a plumber

Talking of which ... don't know whether you could help.  But Lottie, a Belair rabbit, is looking for a new home .. she's a year old and was stupidly given to me for my birthday last year, I never asked for or wanted a rabbit.   She's very gentle and friendly ... but it needs an All black team to catch her and she's not scared of doing a 15ft leap into next doors garden to eat grass.  Lottie doesn't have any green stuff here at home so her life isn't all that interesting and she deserves better, she did spend a week roaming the village loose and had a great time, returning home at night (of her own accord).  Could someone offer her a new home????  A home with children/adults who'll appreciate her ... NOT for the pot, as all my friends round here want to offer (her French name is 'Moutarde' - but I'm not letting her go that way!)

Allezalet offers an all round property service.  From new builds to full renovations, central heating installations and a specialist in solar power, electricians, plumbers we have a local French team who work together on properties; also on the team are kitchen specialists, carpenter and cabinet maker, a full report sent is in English together with photo's.

Additionally to this key holding services, checking up on properties over the winter months and in some villages, summer changeovers.

Finally, Allezalet offers full legal services, untangling the web of car registrations etc, dealing with notaires - any similar needs will be considered.
